Matthew Reeder

Home Department: German

Matthew Reeder is a PhD student in Comparative Literary Studies with a home department in German. He works on critical theory, the development of psychoanalytic thought (especially Freud, Klein, and Lacan), and avant-garde and modernist literature in German, English, and French. Particular areas of interest include formalist and genetic criticism, Austrian and Irish literature, connections between literature and the other arts (e.g. music, cinema), the intersections of psychoanalysis with Marxist and decolonial thought, and theories of language. Before coming to Northwestern, he completed undergraduate work in music and comparative literature at the University of Illinois and a Master of Music in flute performance at Carnegie Mellon University.
